It's not the greatest feeling in the world when you login to Google Analytics only to see a major drop in your website's or app's traffic – especially when you don't know why or how it happened.
When that happens, it's best to start your investigation by determining whether the traffic drop is a result of a technical mishap or marketing influences.
"A sharp decrease, particularly within a day, is most likely a technical issue. A technical issue can take a few forms, such as a misfiring tag, a poorly modified tag script or maybe a new page that was uploaded without a tag," Pierre DuBois wrote for CMS Wire.
