The Free Google Tools that Should be in Every Marketer's Tool Box

Previously, we walked through how to set up and use Google My Business and Google+ Business Pages, two free tools that brands can use to boost their presence in local search results.

In addition, Google has many free tools that are easy-to-use and can be highly valuable to every digital marketer.

Below are the top eight free offerings from Google that are great assets for every digital marketer to have in their toolbox.

1. Google Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools is a free tool that provides insight into your website's status and health in terms of search engine optimization. After setting up an account, you'll be able to see any issues that prevent your site from showing up in Google's search results. You will also be able to analyze all of your existing website traffic referred from Google to gain a thorough understanding into how visitors are finding (or not finding) your website via the search engine.

2. Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a website analysis tool that provides marketing teams with metrics regarding how their website is performing. Metrics like page views, unique visitors, bounce rates and much more are available via Google Analytics. You can see how many of your website visitors are returning after previous visits or are entirely brand new. You can also see how visitors landed on your website – whether they were referred via Google, social media or an external website.

3. Google Alerts

Google Alerts provides marketing teams with an easy and convenient way to monitor where and how specific keywords and phrases are mentioned online. Once you've set up a Google Alert, you will receive email notifications whenever your chosen term (like your brand name) is published online. The email notification also includes a link to the content.

4. Google AdWords Keyword Planner

For keyword research, Google AdWords Keyword Planner is one of the best tools out there. The Keyword Planner is actually meant to help marketers plan and target AdWord campaigns, but it's a great resource to discover new and relevant keywords to optimize for organically. In order to use this tool, you will first have to set up an AdWords account, but you do not have to run any paid campaigns to access the Keyword Planner.

5. Google Trends

In addition to the Keyword Planner, Google Trends is also a great tool that can be used for keyword research. The tool allows you to analyze a search term's popularity. You can compare different variations of a keyword and view how the keyword has performed over different time periods, as well as in various locations and languages. The tool also provides related keyword suggestions.

6. Google Feedburner

Google Feedburner is an old-school (relatively) digital marketing tool, but it shouldn't be overlooked. Feedburner provides an easy, free way to create an RSS feed of your content that your audience can subscribe to in order to receive updates via their email and other platforms.

7. Google Docs

Google provides free cloud-based word and data processing tools that make collaborating with team members easy and hassle-free. Google Docs can serve as a great alternative for Word documents, and Google Sheets can sub in for Excel spreadsheets. Google also provides Google Slides (PowerPoint) and Google Forms (a survey tool). You can share access to documents with team members and edit together simultaneously. All changes are saved automatically, and all content can be synced across mobile devices for convenient on-the-go access with the Google Doc app.

8. Google Drive

Google provides its users will 15 GB of free online cloud storage with Google Drive. You can upload photos, videos, documents and much more to make sharing large files a lot easier than trying (and failing) to send via email.
