For the third month in a row, app downloads set a new record in December. This data comes from mobile marketing tech firm Fiksu.
The data also showed that the cost of acquiring loyal users also increased by 20 percent from December 2013.
While there's a growing demand for free iOS apps, brand marketers are spending a lot more trying to acquire these users.
Fiksu's app competitive index tracks the average aggregate daily download volume of the top 200 free iOS apps. In December, the index rose to 9.2 million. That's a 14 percent increase from November and a 44 percent increase from the year before.
Additionally, Fiksu's cost per loyal user index, which measures the cost of acquiring a user that opens an app three times. rose 33 percent from November to $2.10.
