New from Google: Tool Designed to Help Publishers Monetize Content

By Jillean Kearney on November 30, 2014

Google Contributor, an experimental platform, is the latest tool created by the search engine giant that is designed to help readers pay for reading online content.

Readers will not be asked to pay for subscriptions, but will instead be able to deposit $1 to $3 a month into an account. That money will be used to pay publishers per visit.

Mashable and The Onion are two of ten sites currently experimenting with Google Contributor.

According to Google spokesperson Andra Faville, each publisher gets the same amount as they would for the market rate of a Google ad.
